Architectural Tour: From Canvas to Brick

The development and expansion of Sacramento from a water-logged tent city to an established city, home of the state capital, is reflected in the varying architecture of Old Sacramento's buildings. From Canvas to Brick, traces the history of Sacramento from the floods, fires, gold rush, coming of the capital, and the 1960s redevelopment. Grab your cameras, join a tour group, and learn as Sacramento transforms from a tent city to a series of sturdy brick buildings.

Sacramento City: California's Gold Rush Legacy

Sacramento City comes alive from the perspective of a 1850s personality. Sacramento City: California's Gold Rush Legacy introduces visitors, school groups, and interested locals to Sacramento's fascinating history. A historically attired docent uses the original and reconstructed gold rush era buildings as the backdrop for the tour and describes the town as it was in 1850. From miners, to merchants, politicians, pony express riders, and employees of the transcontinental railroad- Sacramento City: California's Gold Rush Legacy has it all.
